I should have DONE a week eight update 3 or four days ago and I should DO a week nine update on this Friday. At least according to the cadence I had in mind when I started these. Never having been one to do what I should, I've decided to crunch the two together, so I can do one week 10 wrap up after Friday's closing of the pre-order sale. (Did I mention that the sale ends Friday, November 15th? If you want a copy of any of the three Nix Comics trade paperbacks or any of the special offers, best order up!) So how are things looking weeks eight and nine? Pretty good. I the lucky recipient of pre-orders for 75 books from 41 fans to the tune of $1,628.50! Thank you everyone!
That total is about $250 shy of my personal goal breaking even on this project. I've been a little cagey in talking about goals, because I don't want to put my personal goals on your stress-plate, but I do have a few. Chief among them is breaking even on this first print run. While I'm in a good financial position these days, There has to be a decent return on my efforts to keep up making art and do the whole small press publishing thing. I have too many pressures in my life to be blowing all my dough making comics.
Behind the numbers, Bela ordered 10 copies of his own books, on top of the gratis copies I told him to expect, putting "Living With Explosions" making it look like the that books is "doubling" up the other two in interest levels. Not quite, though it was getting close! I'm hoping that the Western has a last minuet come from behind attempt in this race. It's just as good as the other books, imho.
Anyways, it looks like I MIGHT make the Break Even point if I'm lucky, though It'll take between 10 and 12 more orders over the next week. I'll almost definitely fall short of matching my average pre-orders using a crowd-funding platform. (35-45 books.) If you'd like to help out with attempts at reaching my quixotic goals, please tell some friends to pre-order Nix Comics!
